Kingdom Sees Substantial Rise in Rainfall, Dams Gain Increased Water Storage

Amman: Jordan’s long-term annual average rainfall has reached 54 percent, registering a significant increase of 10 percent within the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation – Jordan Valley Authority.

In comparison, the rainfall percentage relative to the long-term annual average on the same date last year was 39.7 percent. The recent increase in precipitation has contributed approximately 5 million cubic meters of rainwater to the country’s dams over the last 24 hours.

Consequently, the total water storage in the main dams now stands at 111 million cubic meters, which is 38.5 percent of their total storage capacity of 288.128 billion cubic meters. Notably, the Ajloun region recorded the highest precipitation, receiving 74.2 mm within a 24-hour period.

The central regions of the Kingdom experienced the most substantial rainfall over the past 48 hours. The Salt monitoring station recorded 74.6 mm, closely followed by the Ras Munif station in the northern regions with 65.4 mm.

led rainfall figures across various regions include 39 mm in Irbid, 23 mm in Ramtha, 30.5 mm in Baqoura, 53.2 mm in Sama, 40.5 mm in Wadi al-Rayan, and 22 mm in Jerash for the northern regions.

In the central regions, measurements varied with Amman Civil Airport station at 14.6 mm, Al-Hussein Gardens at 49.5 mm, Al-Quwaisimah at 7.4 mm, Downtown at 9.6 mm, Queen Alia Airport at 13.8 mm, Zarqa at 11.8 mm, Al-Ghabawi at 4.7 mm, and Al-Khalidiya Al-Dhilil at 6 mm.

Eastern regions showed Mafraq station at 16.8 mm and Azraq at 0.2 mm. The southern regions recorded varying figures: Qatrana monitoring station at 2.8 mm, Al-Rabbah at 30 mm, Al-Ghor Al-Safi at 0.5 mm, Tafila at 4.7 mm, Al-Shoubak at 16 mm, and Petra at 0.5 mm. Notably, the governorates of Ma’an and Aqaba did not record any rainfall in the last 48 hours.
