Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, George Kallas, visited today his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, at the headquarters of the Qatar Football Association, congratulating him on his appointment as Youth and Sports Minister in the new Qatari government.
Kallas also congratulated the Qatari Minister on the successful organization of the Asian Cup which brought together the teams of Lebanon and Qatar, considering that the organization had reached an unparalleled international level.
Accompanying him on his visit were Lebanon’s Commissioner at Expo Doha, Mohammad Abou Haidar, and the Deputy Head of the Lebanese Diplomatic Mission in Qatar, Chant Vartanian.
The meeting was a chance to discuss the content of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the youth and sports fields with the Qatari state within the framework of Qatar Vision 2030 that Minister Kallas had sent to his Qatari counterpart.
Talks also centered on the conditions of sports facilities in Lebanon, w
hereby Kallas requested Qatar’s assistance in rehabilitating them so that official local and international matches can be hosted in Lebanon.
On another note, Kallas praised the role of the Lebanese Ambassador to Qatar, Farah Berri, in rendering diplomatic relations between the two countries a success, as a result of the efforts she is undertaking in this context alongside the embassy’s staff.
Crowning his official visit to Qatar which included a series of meetings and activities, Minister Kallas received from his Qatari counterpart the official Asian Cup ball as a symbolic gift token.
