Salem added that this conference also comes in response to the request of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which called for opening the crossings to provide aid, especially with the delay in opening the American port in Gaza, in addition to several other things related to the Israeli Knesset’s move to issue some laws that would undermine the delivery of financial aid to Gaza, which requires taking a position to confront the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, especially with regard to international humanitarian relief aid, and therefore the conference will be one of the most important occasions for this role.
Salem pointed to Egypt’s insistence, during the Cairo trilateral meeting on Sunday, on Israel’s withdrawal from the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side in order to resume its operation, because Israel is exerting more pressure in this area and trying to control all crossings, including the Rafah crossing, which means controlling all other crossings, and may be used in the future as a card in an
y future negotiations.
He added that Jordan has previously hosted coordination meetings to discuss the humanitarian response in Gaza, and attended by UN governmental and non-governmental organizations, and therefore it is important during this conference to coordinate between the participating countries, humanitarian and relief organizations and the United Nations with all its branches and agencies, and a unified response to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, based on the ICJ request that demanded opening the crossings to fully deliver aid, despite Israel’s attempts to place responsibility on Egypt, which is not correct, as Egypt will not allow Israel to be the dominant party at the crossing, and will not allow its operation to resume until after an Israeli withdrawal.
Additionally, Tarek Fahmy, professor of political science at Cairo University, told Petra that Jordan’s hosting of this important conference, in cooperation with the Egypt and the United Nations, will launch the mechanism of international co
operation and relief for the Palestinian cause, not just the people of Gaza, pointing out that Jordan and Egypt will present an integration strategy between those countries and organizations that will participate in reconstruction projects, relief, support and other works, and because the importance of the Jordanian-Egyptian leading role in supporting the brothers in Gaza, they are partners with the Palestinian side and naturally confirm the movement of supporting Arab countries.
