Jordan Tuesday welcomed UNESCO’s unanimous decision to keep the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls on the List of World Heritage in Danger due to Israeli measures threatening the cultural heritage in the Old City.

Ministry of Affairs spokesperson Sufyan Qudah said, “All Israeli measures aimed at changing the character and legal status of the Holy City are null and void,” urging the Israeli government as the occupiers to stop its violations in the Old City.

Qudah said the resolution, adopted at UNESCO’s 46th session in New Delhi, and earlier resolutions expressed regret for Israel’s failure to stop excavations, tunnels, and all other works in East Jerusalem, which are illegal per the international law.

He added that the resolution calls for appointing a permanent representative of UNESCO in the Old City of Jerusalem and sending an interactive monitoring mission from UNESCO to Jerusalem to document Israeli violations.

He added that the resolution was brought forward by Jordanian diplomacy in coordination b
etween the Kingdom, the State of Palestine and the Arab and Islamic groups in the organisation.
