The first part of the 17 km long Southern Desert Road maintenance project that would link Nejev to Ma’an is 44 per cent complete. Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh visited Wednesday the project site in Aqaba to witness the work progress to rehabilitate and improve the desert road extending from the Negev region to the Humayma region in Ma’an and the infrastructure works for the Quweira industrial area project in Aqaba. Khasawneh discussed the “need” to complete the remainder of the project at 30 per cent within three months and to overcome obstacles. “We salute all the staff working on the project and urge them to continue working and speed up the completion of this important and vital project,” Khasawneh said. He was made aware of the latest figures regarding the project from officials implementing the project on the progress of work and achievement. The project to rehabilitate and improve the road is part of the jurisdiction of the governorates of Ma’an and Aqaba for JOD 24 million. During his inspection of the infrastructure works of the Quweira industrial zone in Aqaba, Khasawneh noted the “importance of continuing work to achieve the desired goals of the project to serve the national economy.”
