Jordan South Med Social Dialogue Employers Seminar concluded

The Jordan Employers Seminar of South Mediterranean Social Dialogue (SOLiD) on Thursday concluded its activities in the capital Amman. According to a statement released by General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), the event, which saw participation of representatives of trade unions, employer organizations and civil society, aims to discuss status of Jordan’s social dialogue and draft “collective” scenarios to achieve sustainable development goals. This future effort is based on perspective of social partners (workers, employers) and civil society organizations to define basic features of upcoming discussions to implement a charter to promote social dialogue in Southern Mediterranean region, the statement added. The semniar is the first national event to be implemented in SOLiD program countries in its 2nd phase, after its scope was expanded geographically and sectorally, to include Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Algeria, and Jordan. During the seminar, participants recommended the necessity to institutionalize and regulate social dialogue activities and launch governance for this purpose, especially in policies related to the labor sector and workers rights. The speakers also stressed importance of social dialogue in facing challenges caused by external factors and emergency conditions, which affect national economies and labor market, harm worker sectors and impede sustainable development process, the statement said.
