Amman: Jordan, a participant in a Swiss-hosted peace conference for Ukraine on June 15 and 16, conveyed its gratitude to Switzerland for organizing the event and reaffirmed its support for international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principle of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, including that of Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Jordan opted not to endorse the final communique issued at the conference, an informed government source said Monday.
The source stated that the Jordanian delegation formally notified the Swiss authorities of its position, despite aligning with several elements of the joint statement that underscore the need for a just and durable peace in line with relevant United Nations General Assembly resolutions and the principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Jordan reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to ensure the uniform application of international law and the UN Charter across all nations and conflict situations, striving to achieve jus
tice, stability, and peace globally.
The source further noted that the conference organizers initially, and erroneously, included Jordan among the countries that adopted and sponsored the communiqué, an error that was subsequently corrected. A similar mistake was made with the Republic of Iraq.
Notably, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Iraq also attended the conference but did not adopt or sponsor the communiqué.
