Jordan Joins Meeting on Arab Health-Friendly Budget Strategy

Cairo: Jordan participated on Monday in a meeting of representatives of health and finance ministries of Arab countries to oversee the implementation of the Arab strategy of a health-friendly budget and assess its goals.

Convened by the Arab League in collaboration with the World Health Organization (Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean) and the United Nations Population Fund, the two-day meeting aims to devise a strategy implementation plan.

The plan will be coordinated by the health and finance ministries of member states to enhance progress in achieving the strategy’s objectives.

The meeting is part of the ongoing efforts to follow up on Resolution 3 of the 59th regular session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, which was focused on launching the Arab strategy for a health-friendly budget with the aim of developing more responsive and adaptive health budgets that meet the needs of populations.

It also aims to strengthen public financial management systems to advance towards universal
health coverage. Additionally, the strategy seeks to identify principles for greater involvement of the health sector in public financial management interventions, enhance the efficiency of health services and expand the sector’s financial resources.
