Jordan condemns Israel’s decision to revoke diplomatic status of Norwegian envoys

AMMAN: Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs today condemned Israel’s decision revoking the diplomatic status of Norwegian diplomats serving the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.

Spokesperson for the Ministry Sufyan Qudah affirmed that this unprecedented step came as part of the larger provocative measures taken by the Israeli government against all states that recognise the State of Palestine and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the latter’s inalienable rights.

He stressed that Israel’s reactions to the European states’ decisions on recognition of the Palestinian State run contrary to the norms of international law as well as to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

On Thursday, the Norwegian ambassador was summoned to Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and informed that the diplomats, all based in Tel Aviv, would have their accreditation revoked in seven days and their visas annulled in three months.
