President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, on Saturday discussed with Director General of the Federation of Yemen Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FYCCI) Taha Ahmed Mahbashi, mechanisms for activating work of the Joint Business Council, which was established in 2002. According to a JCC statement, the two sides agreed on importance of re-launching the council’s activities after forming its 24 members from both countries, on an equal basis from Jordan and Yemen. During the meeting, which was held at the JCC headquarters, Haj Tawfiq lauded “distinguished” bilateral relations at various levels, which requires rebuilding a new form of joint trade and investment cooperation, and take advantage of the the two countries’ available opportunities. Haj Tawfiq noted the council would have a “major and important” role in the next stage in terms of strengthening joint economic cooperation and restoring its past status by increasing level of trade and investment exchange. He pointed out that supporting Yemen and helping it to overcome its difficulties is considered an Arab national duty, stressing JCC’s readiness to make any efforts that contribute to preparing all means to advance the bilateral relations, given that Yemen is an important market and trade partner for Jordan. Hajj Tawfiq noted Jordanian side will soon name representatives in the council, which would be announced on the sidelines of the 20th Conference of Arab Businessmen and Investors, which the Chamber will host next October 18. Moreover, he stressed importance of attracting new Yemeni investments to the Kingdom and taking advantage of the opportunities available in multiple commercial, service and industrial sectors. JCC, he noted, is ready to to provide all facilitations and provide the Yemeni side with all available opportunities, and follow up on any issues facing investors and work to address them with the official authorities. He also highlighted importance of arranging a virtual JCC-FYCCI meeting to prepare mechanisms for activate the council and arrange any steps that pave way for making progress in achieving its goals to serve mutual economic interests.
