The Department of Jerusalem Endowments and the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs condemned today the attack by the Israeli police on worshipers at Lions’ Gate (Bab al-Asbat) who attempted to enter the mosque to perform Friday prayers, which resulted in the injury of several people. The Director General of the Department, Azzam Al-Khatib, affirmed that Israel must respect its obligations as the occupying power in East Jerusalem. He pointed out that according to international law, Israel does not have the right to impose any restrictions on entering the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. He stressed that the Jerusalem Endowments and Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites is the authority that has exclusive jurisdiction to manage all Al-Aqsa affairs and regulate entry to it.
