The Egyptian State has become more able to speak for itself and its joint interests with partners and those with whom it deals on an equal footing, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
During a phone interview with Al Hayat Al Youm satellite TV channel on Tuesday evening 13/12/2022, he added that the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries is part and parcel of Egypt’s foreign policy.
It is the vision of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to entrench this principle, which is enshrined in international law, by preventing any interference in domestic affairs of other countries, the spokesman said.
Speaking about the Riyadh Arab-China Summit for Cooperation and Development, hosted by Saudi Arabia last week, the spokesman said Egypt’s relations with China are based on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference, and respecting the will of peoples.
He noted that the messages communicated by President Sisi during the summit, in connection with Egyptian-Chinese ties, water security, debts, and climate change are all of great concern to the Arab as well as the Chinese side.
When Egypt talks about current global challenges, including energy, cash flow, debt, and food crises, it speaks for African, Arab, and developing nations, the spokesman pointed out.
Touching upon the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit, slated for December 13-15 in Washington, Abu Zeid said President Sisi has an integrated diplomatic program to deal with the US.
He noted that the president usually has an extensive schedule for any visit to Washington.
As for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue, the spokesman reiterated Egypt’s position that all the parties’ involved need to reach a legally-binding agreement on filling and operating the huge controversial dam on the Blue Nile.
He added that Egypt is trying to break the deadlock in GERD talks.
