The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced its comprehensive plan to facilitate the mobility and transport needs during the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will run from the 24th to 26th of November on Yas Island. This comes as part of its objective to contribute to the success of events in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
ITC will utilise all means necessary to meet the event’s transportation needs based on the highest international standards, thereby facilitating the safe and convenient access of the public to the venues and to the success of the F1 events taking place in emirate.
The ITC said that the traffic management team will organise and manage traffic through the Traffic Management Centre on Yas Island by calibrating traffic signals to ensure smooth traffic movement, as well as dispatching messages through traffic VMS informing the public of updates around the event area in coordination with strategic partners.
Road Service
Patrols will also be provided to manage traffic, support drivers in case of accidents or vehicle breakdowns (e.g. refuelling, tire change, battery charge) as well as vehicle towing trucks to evacuate stalled vehicles from the road to the nearest safe location, ensuring the safety of all road users.
In addition, the ITC has allocated 80 public buses to transport visitors and event organisers. The buses will operate in the Yas Circuit Circular to transport users from Yas Mall parking lots, with the assembly point being at Yas Mall main gate and Warner Bros gate, and transporting the passengers to the racetrack gates, Yas Island hotels, and the entertainment zones. Additionally, 3 buses will be allocated to transport the event-organising volunteers from their assembly point outside Yas Island to Yas Circuit before and after the end of their duty.
