Israeli colonists takeover dwelling north of Jericho

Israeli colonists Friday evening took over a Palestinian dwelling in the Ras Ein al-‘Auja Bedouin community, north of the occupied West Bank city of Jericho.

Hasan Mleihat, Head of the al-Baydar Association for the Defense of Bedouin Rights, said that three colonists took over an abandoned dwelling on the outskirts of the community, settled inside and brought their livestock along with a water tank in a step intended to serve as the nucleus of a new colonial outpost.

He added that the assailants came from a nearby colonial outpost whose head has carried out many attacks on Palestinians in the area.

Colonists’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Colonists’ violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, and attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

Over 700,000 Israeli colonists are living in colonies across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of
international law.
