JERICHO: Israeli colonists, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, stormed an archaeological site this morning in the city of Jericho, east of the occupied West Bank.
Eyewitnesses reported that dozens of settlers, guarded by Israeli forces, entered the Shahwan Synagogue, an archaeological site located at the entrance of the Ein al-Sultan refugee camp in Jericho.
This archaeological site dates back to the Byzantine era and features a mosaic floor. It was discovered during excavations conducted by Palestinian archaeologist Dimitri Baramki while working with the British Mandate’s Department of Antiquities in 1936.
Since the discovery, the landowner, Palestinian citizen Hosni Shahwan from Jerusalem, built a house over the mosaic floor to preserve it.
