RAMALLAH: The Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs Commission said that the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) is tightening its grip on detainees in the ‘Negev’ prison, making their lives an ‘unbearable hell.’

The Commission explained in a statement released today that Israel’s repressive measures against detainees in the Negev Prison make life more miserable, harsh, and anxious, in light of the strict security measures imposed on them after October 7th.

It stated that the IPS cut off electricity and deliberately cut off water for varying periods. It also isolated detainees from the outside world, withdrew food supplies, and reduced meals, in addition to closing a shop to buy necessities.

Additionally, IPS denied sick detainees from being transported to clinics or to civilian hospitals, and prevented detainees from going out to square where they have breaks, and stopped family visits

It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation authorities have been carrying out a massive arrest campaign in the West Bank, incl
uding Jerusalem, since the beginning of the aggression against Gaza, arresting more than 6,000 Palestinian citizens, including children and women, bringing the number of detainees inside the occupation prisons to about 9,000 detainees.
