Israel cuts off water and electricity supply to Gaza

The Israeli occupation authorities have cut off water and electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, according to Salama Maarouf, head of the government media office in Gaza. This has resulted in the municipalities in Gaza’s central area being deprived of 50% of their water needs, in addition to two treatment plants being damaged due to bombing in the surrounding areas, Maarouf said in a press conference outside the Al-Shifa Hospital. He added that the Gaza Strip now only gets 4 hours of electricity a day from the Gaza Power Station after the Israeli occupation has ceased its supply. “This situation has worsened the already difficult humanitarian conditions and poses a threat to vital services such as hospitals, water wells, and treatment plants,” he said. The death toll has reached 303 Palestinians, with 990 injuries and nearly 20,000 displaced persons in 23 shelter centers, as well as internal displacement to relatives, he added. He stated that the bombing by Israel had completely destroyed 13 residential buildings comprising 159 units, partially damaged 1,210 residential units, with 36 of them becoming uninhabitable, and destroyed public facilities and two mosques. Furthermore, Maarouf denounced the bombing of the Indonesia Hospital earlier that damaged the building, disrupted the oxygen station, and also targeted ambulance crews and medical staff.
