Irrigation Minister hails Congolese pro-Egypt stance on water issues

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Sweilem said Egypt highly appreciates the Congolese stance in support of its water concerns.

Egypt is eager to boost cooperation among Nile Basin countries by creating common interests and achieving mutual benefit for all parties, Sweilem told Vice-Prime Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Democratic Republic of Congo Eve Bazaiba Masudi during their meeting in Kinshasa Saturday 18/02/2023.

The Egyptian minister praised Cairo and Kinshasa’s exceptional and strategic relations at all levels. “Egypt firmly supports the Congolese president’s development initiatives, which aim to raise economic development rates and improve the standard of living for his countrymen.”

He expressed a desire to work to strengthen the two countries’ bonds of cooperation and integration in the field of sustainable development of water resources, as well as to transfer Egyptian expertise in irrigation, agriculture, and the optimal use of water resources to Congo so that agriculture becomes the locomotive of development in the African state.

He also emphasised Egypt’s desire to strengthen Congolese cadres’ competence through various training courses held by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and Egyptian ministries and organizations. “We have a golden opportunity to enhance cooperation between the two countries through exchanging experiences to face water challenges”.
