Irrigation Minister Emphasizes Support for African Nations Through Training Programs


Cairo: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Sweilam has reiterated his ministry’s commitment to supporting African nations through comprehensive training programs and the transfer of Egyptian expertise, particularly in modern water resource management and climate change adaptation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Sweilam made these remarks during a meeting where he received a report from Salwa Abul Ela, the head of the African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (PACWA). The report highlighted the center’s training activities, which recently included 38 African trainees.

Sweilam underscored the significance of Egypt’s first National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which prioritizes key projects tailored to address climate change impacts. In 2023, a total of 21 regional training courses were organized, attracting 427 participants, while 2025 saw 20 additional training activities with 500 African trainees in attendance.

The minister also expressed gratitude to the American Univers
ity in Cairo (AUC) for its dedication to enhancing collaboration with the ministry in implementing these training initiatives.
