Irrigation Minister: Coastal protection projects aimed to confront climate change

Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Ati said Egypt’s coastal protection projects are meant to confront the impact of climate change and stop coastal erosion.

In a statement on Sunday, Abdel Ati said such projects contribute to increasing tourist income in the areas where coastal and agricultural lands are protected.

He added that several coastal protection projects were implemented in Alexandria, Ras el Bar, Rashid and Gamasa.

He noted that a project for adaptation to climate change in the North Coast and Nile Delta was launched to establish a protection system along 69-kilometer low lying lands in Nile Delta in five governorates; Port Said, Damietta, Daqahlia, Kafr el Sheikh and Beheira.

The project is scheduled to be finalized by 2024, he said, noting that about 70 percent of the project has been accomplished.

Also, a coastal protection project is being implemented in Marsa Matrouh and is scheduled to be finalized in May 2024.
