Abu dhabi: Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, highlighted the significance of the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024), organised by the university and taking place in Abu Dhabi from 14th to 18th October.
The event underscores Khalifa University’s global standing and the emirate’s position as a global hub for research and innovation, he said.
Speaking to Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the occasion of the conference’s launch tomorrow in Abu Dhabi, Professor Al Hajri said that IROS 2024 attracts some of the brightest minds globally and enhances international collaboration. It also provides a platform to showcase the university’s advanced research facilities, innovative projects, and contributions to the field of robotics, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in research and education.
Regarding the agenda of IROS 2024, he explained, “The event is expected to draw over 10,000 participants and features a series of lectures
, technical sessions, workshops, and competitions focusing on the theme of ‘Robotics for Sustainable Development’.”
Professor Al Hajri noted that Khalifa University has made significant research achievements, with over 300 patents, 700 innovations, more than 8,000 published scientific articles, and over 4,500 conference papers worldwide. The university also leads in publishing research in the top 5 percent of scientific journals, with an average of 18.8 citations per publication, ranking among the highest globally.
He added that IROS 2024 sees wide international participation, marking the 36th and largest edition to date, with over 4,000 research papers from 60 countries. China leads with 1,029 papers, followed by the United States with 777, Germany with 302, and Japan with 253. The United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea each submitted 173 papers, while the UAE leads Arab nations with 68 research papers.
Al Hajri emphasised that the conference offers a unique opportunity for international collaboration,
enabling participants to exchange knowledge, explore new research trends, and build partnerships that enhance the future of robotics and intelligent systems. It also provides a golden opportunity to attract the brightest minds in robotics from around the world.
