Iraqi President contacts Mikati by phone, condemns attack on Lebanon and offers humanitarian aid


The media office of the Iraqi Presidency issued the following statement:

“On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, His Excellency President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid held a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

During the call, the President strongly condemned the attack that targeted Lebanon on Tuesday, which resulted in casualties, calling it a dangerous development and an unacceptable escalation aimed at expanding the scope of war and aggression. He warned of the serious repercussions this could have on the region’s security and stability.

President Rashid expressed Iraq’s solidarity with the Lebanese people in this ordeal and offered Iraq’s readiness to provide all kinds of humanitarian and medical aid to the injured. He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims of this attack.

The President reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the security and stability of Lebanon and its rejection of any aggression against the country. He stressed the need for the international community to
shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities by stopping the war against the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, and preventing any attempt to expand the conflict.

For his part, Prime Minister Mikati expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to Iraq, its people, and government for their consistent and supportive stance toward Lebanon in its various challenges over the years.”
