BAGHDAD: Iraq and the United Nations discussed the gradual termination of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
During his meeting with Mohamed Al Hassan, new Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the UNAMI, Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s Foreign Minister, expressed his country’s readiness to provide all forms of support to facilitate the work of the UN Special Representative.
He also thanked UNAMI for its efforts in supporting Iraq over the past years.
The UN Security Council had decided in May to conclude UNAMI’s mandate in Iraq by the end of 2025, at the request of the Baghdad government.
