International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashaat said that Egypt Country Platform for Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE), which was launched in July, aims at accelerating the implementation of the Egyptian State program to face climate change.
Giving a word on the sidelines of her participation in the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh city, the minister said the document is the platform of the Arab world to implement pledges and boost the contribution of the private sector.
She went on to say that the platform asserts the integration and complementarity between climate action and development efforts through the implementation of Confronting Climate Change (CCC) projects.
The platform is a unique opportunity for the international community to support CCC programs based on the Paris Agreement, the minister said.
The Egyptian State seeks to strengthen partnerships with the private sector, the minister said, citing the signing of a partnership for financing NWFE and green projects in Egypt at a total value of dlrs 10 million.
Egypt seeks to provide all aspects of support to developing countries and emerging economies, with the aim of adopting measures for these countries in the field of climate action, as well as consolidating ties with development partners.
The Egyptian State seeks to reduce the risks of climate change by setting up an early warning program, along with cooperating with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Mashat said.
Egypt also aims to reach 42% renewables in its energy mix by 2030, and to promote activities related to irrigation and water desalination through the use of clean energy, she added.
