NEW DELHI: India’s new government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn into office by the country’s President, Droupadi Murmu, on Sunday.
The new 72-member Council of Ministers has a term of office of five years. Modi won a hat trick in the 4th June elections and will govern as head of the National Democratic Alliance coalition (NDA) which won 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the lower House of Parliament.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by 9,000 people in the sprawling forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the British colonial era presidential palace.
