Cairo: The Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) of the Cabinet has spotlighted the World Economic Forum’s report titled “Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2025.” This report delves into the escalating complexity of the cyber landscape and its significant impact on both institutions and countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the report emphasizes that the intricacy of the cybersecurity environment extends beyond technical issues, encompassing economic and social facets that necessitate a comprehensive and integrated approach.
The report identifies several factors contributing to this complexity, including geopolitical tensions, complex supply chains, emerging technologies, regulatory demands, and a shortage of skilled personnel. It highlights that international conflicts and rising geopolitical tensions increase uncertainty, with cyber attacks becoming tools in these conflicts. Governments, vital infrastructures, and economies are frequently targeted. Furthermore, the reliance on interconnected supply chains introduces vulnerabilities that can be exploited, compounded by a lack of transparency and oversight regarding supplier security.
The rapid adoption of technologies, such as artificial intelligence, is also contributing to new security vulnerabilities, which cybercriminals leverage to enhance their attack strategies. Regarding regulatory demands, the variety of laws and regulations worldwide poses challenges for organizations striving to comply. The report also notes that the shortage of specialized cybersecurity skills exacerbates the situation, as many organizations struggle with the competencies needed to manage cyber risks.
