IDSC: Egypt among 1st countries to adopt strategies to reduce negative climate impacts

The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said Egypt is among the first countries to adopt strategies to reduce negative climate impacts.

In addition, Egypt is gearing up to host the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP 27) in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh after launching the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, the IDSC reported in a video published to highlight the country’s key efforts to reduce the negative climate impacts.

The video showed that about 8,000 km2 of unutilized land have been allocated for the renewable energy projects, pointing out that Egypt is now owning the largest electric capacities of wind and solar power in the region.

Egypt has worked since 2016 on delivering natural gas to about 13 million homes and converting more than 420,000 cars to run on compressed natural gas, said the IDSC.

It added that about 90% of power plants are currently using natural gas and 42% of electricity are sought to be generated from new and renewable energy by 2030.
