Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebaly has hailed as “historical” relations with India.

Gebaly in a meeting with Om Birla, speaker of India’s House of the People, aka the Lok Sabha, said he is looking forward to enhancing parliamentary cooperation with India.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), currently taking place in Bahrain.

The two speakers also discussed regional challenges, especially with surging extremism and terrorism. Geblay reviewed Egypt’s leading efforts to fight terrorism and extremism.

Birla, for his part, underlined the positive momentum at the level of Egyptian-Indian relations.

He spoke highly of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s recent visit to India, which, he believes, expanded horizons of cooperation between the two countries.
