The House of Representatives will embark on its fourth legislative season with four procedural sessions on Sunday and Monday before tackling rising prices, criminal law, and other issues over the next nine months.
Last week, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi invited the House to reconvene in accordance with constitutional mandates.
The legislative season is slated to last for nine months, concluding with the approval of the budget for the following year in June.
The house’s bureau will remain unchanged from previous seasons, as per the law. The bureau will be composed of Speaker Hanafy El-Gebaly, First Vice-Speaker Ahmed Saad El-Din, and Vice-Speaker Mohamed Abouelainin.
During the inaugural session on Sunday, El-Gebaly will deliver a keynote address, officially inaugurating the new season and outlining the legislative agenda.
On Monday, three procedural sessions will be held to form the house’s 25 specialized committees and elect their chairs, vice-chairs, and secretaries.
During this season, the house is expected to tackle the implementation of a comprehensive package of financial incentives aimed at improving the income and financial stability of civil servants and pensioners, aligning with the president’s directives to mitigate the impact of rising prices.
They will also discuss a slew of vital legislation, including the Criminal Procedures Law. They will build on the substantial progress made by the relevant committee during the previous season, including their numerous meetings over the parliamentary recess.
The legislative agenda is also expected to encompass the Child Law, amendments to the penal code, the Dispute Settlement Law, the Economic Courts Law, and the Law on Reconciliation in Building Violations.
