Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour discussed on Tuesday 18-July with officials of the European Organization for Nuclear Research known as CERN mechanism of boosting academic cooperation and developing scientific research in the field of particle physics or high energy physics.

This came during the minister’s meeting with officials of the CERN council in Geneva, in the presence of Egypt’s Permanent Representative in Geneva Ambassador Ahmed Ehab Gamal el Din and President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Mahmoud Saqr and Egypt’s Cultural Advisor in Paris Nour El Sobky.

During the visit, the minister had a meeting with a number of Egyptian researchers and academics affiliated with the European Council to learn about their vision and proposals for maximizing scientific and academic benefit from the various programs offered by the CERN Council and the most important challenges they face.

Ashour also had talks with Martin Gastal, a senior staff member of CERN on the possibility of launching a scholarship program for outstanding Egyptian graduate students to study master’s and doctoral degrees at CERN.

For his part, the ASRT president said that the cooperation between the ministry and the CERN council resulted in more than 1,560 international scientific papers that contributed to improving the ranking of Egyptian universities and building research capabilities in the fields of high energy physics.

CERN is the largest laboratory in the world dedicated to research in particle physics.
