The Ministry of Public Health on Wednesday inaugurated an oxygen generation station at Baabda Governmental University Hospital, sponsored by Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firas Al-Abiad, in the presence of German Ambassador Kurt Georg Stoeckl-Stillfried, Mount Lebanon Governor Judge Mohammad Makawi, WHO Acting Representative in Lebanon Dr. Abdul Nasser Abu Bakr, Hospital Director Farid Sabagh, Ministry of Public Health’s Hospitals and Dispensaries Department Head Hisham Fawaz, alongside other officials and stakeholders.
The station is part of a collaboration with the World Health Organization and financial support from Germany’s KfW Development Bank, aiming to enhance hospital readiness and oxygen independence. It marks a significant step in Lebanon’s national health strategy amid crises, ensuring sustained healthcare capabilities.
For his part, the German Ambassador highlighted Germany’s commitment to Lebanon despite challenging circumstances, inaugurating an oxygen generation station at Baabda Government
al University Hospital. He emphasized Germany’s investment in Lebanese healthcare, including solar energy for 150 health centers and oxygen stations in 12 hospitals.
Stressing the importance of quality healthcare accessibility, the German diplomat acknowledged Lebanon’s high demand amidst crises, pledging ongoing support through sustainable projects.
He went in to thank Lebanon and its people for cooperation and resilience, calling for peace amid recent conflicts affecting vulnerable populations.
The Ambassador finally reaffirmed Germany’s solidarity, promising to continue aiding Lebanon’s healthcare infrastructure to improve public health services.
Learn n turn, Dr. Abu Bakr emphasized oxygen’s critical role in treating respiratory diseases, highlighting ongoing efforts to secure healthcare infrastructure and services across Lebanon.

Al-Abiad reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to enhancing healthcare readiness and thanked partners like WHO for their ongoing collaboration, calling for immediate cessation of hostilities to safeguard citizens and emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to serving the community despite limited resources, promising continued support for Lebanon’s people.
