Cairo: Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, recently engaged with a delegation from the United Kingdom for International Hospitals to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation and expanding investment opportunities in Egypt’s healthcare sector. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, aimed to foster new collaborative efforts in line with Egypt’s sustainable development goals.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Deputy Prime Minister opened the meeting by expressing his eagerness to strengthen partnerships, emphasizing the Egyptian government’s focus on the healthcare sector and its commitment to attracting both local and foreign investments. He highlighted that Egypt’s investment-friendly laws provide a robust platform for private sector involvement.
Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, noted the meeting’s focus on potential investments in healthcare, as well as the exchange of expertise in medical facility management, particularly within mental health services. The discussion spotlighted the “Sukina” mental health and addiction treatment hospital in New Alamein as a model of successful healthcare provision, stressing the Egyptian state’s recent emphasis on mental health and addiction rehabilitation.
The Ministry’s spokesperson further detailed discussions on exchanging expertise in capacity building and human resource development through medical staff training to ensure quality healthcare services. The meeting also explored joint opportunities in healthcare digitisation and digital transformation by leveraging health initiative databases.
The UK delegation expressed confidence in Egypt’s investment climate and a keen interest in deepening partnerships to deliver safe and comprehensive healthcare services. They conveyed enthusiasm for future cooperation, reinforcing their commitment to collaborative growth.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Dr Mohamed Al-Tayeb, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, Dr Anwar Ismail, Assistant Minister for National Projects, Dr Ahmed Saafan, Assistant Minister for Hospitals, Dr Rasha El-Sharkawy, Head of the Central Administration for Strategic Management, and Dr Shaimaa Imam, Director of Health Economics and Investment Support.
