Head of Government Holds Talks with OECD SG in Rabat


Rabat – Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch held talks, on Wednesday in Rabat, with Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, during which he praised the ongoing and fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and this international organization.

The meeting provided an opportunity to announce the closing of the Country Program II between Morocco and the OECD, which aims to strengthen support, partnership and cooperation in the implementation of a series of structural reforms in the fields of public governance, the economy and investment, social integration and territorial development, through the introduction of more of the best practices adopted by the organization, according to a statement by the Head of Government’s department.

During the meeting, the Head of Government recalled the major socio-economic changes that Morocco is undergoing under the Enlightened Leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, which have enabled th
e Kingdom to evolve into an emerging regional economic power, through the adoption of ambitious strategies in many promising sectors, such as renewable energies, green hydrogen, the automotive industry and aeronautics, added the same source.

Akhannouch also welcomed the positive conclusions of the OECD’s first economic survey of Morocco, which analyzed the Kingdom’s economic situation, and which Cormann reviewed during the talks. On this occasion, both parties expressed their aspiration to pursue the dynamic of the bilateral partnership and to move forward towards new and promising prospects for cooperation.

Country Program II is a further milestone in the strengthening of constructive cooperation between Morocco and the OECD. The Kingdom of Morocco was the first country in the North Africa and Middle East region, and one of the first four countries in the world, to sign a Country Program Memorandum of Understanding with the OECD.

ms undertaken by Morocco in several economic and social areas, as well as in the area of governance, concluded the statement.
