Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamieh, on Sunday, appealed to residents and citizens not to throw waste in the rain drains.
He wrote on his “X” platform account: “The cleaning of rain drains is ongoing and continuous on various highways in all Lebanese regions from Beirut, to the South, North, Mount Lebanon and far-reaching the Bekaa…However, the efforts made are in vain whenever waste is dumped inside the drains as shown in the attached photos from various regions…’
Hamieh indicated that the ministry’s contractors are continuing to clean-up the drains, but the dumped waste leads to immediate blockages and consequently causing road floods when heavy rain begins.
He added: “Once again, we are launching a cry for integration between the various concerned sides, and of course the commitment of citizens and residents, to join efforts to reduce as much as possible the occurrence of floods on highways and roads and limit their negative effects on everyone.’
