HALABI DISCUSSES MEANS TO BOLSTER EDUCATIONAL RELATIONS WITH HIS KURDISTAN COUNTERPART, MEETS UNICEF OFFICIAL ON SIDELINES OF WORLD EDUCATION FORUM 2024


Caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Abbas Al-Halabi, on Wednesday continued his visit to London, where he participates in the work of the World Education Forum 2024, held in the British capital, London.

Minister Halabi is chairing a delegation that included the Director General of Education, Imad Al-Ashqar, the General Coordinator of Educational Curricula at the Educational Center for Research and Development, Jihad Saliba, and the Minister’s Advisor for Foreign Relations, Maher Al-Hassaniya.

In this framework, and on the sidelines of the Forum, Minister Halabi met with the Minister of Education in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Dr. Alan Hama Saeed, heading a delegation of senior ministry officials and advisors, in the presence of the accompanying Lebanese delegation.

Discussions reportedly touched on the educational and university relations between the two sides, and ways to strengthen them.

Discussions also dwelt on the memorandum of understanding signed years ago with the region, w
hereby both ministers agreed to develop and modernize it in order to keep pace with the current stage and contribute more to improving educational and university exchange and cooperation between institutions in the two countries.

Al-Halabi received an invitation from his Kurdistan counterpart to visit the region and participate in the work of the educational conference that will be held there between the first and fourth of next August.

Moreover, Minister Halabi and his accompanying delegation met, on the sidelines of the Forum, with the Global Director of Education at UNICEF, Rob Jenkins. The discussion dealt with the current educational situation in Lebanon, and the high costs of living and education.
