Gov’t sees food security as national security issue

Agriculture Minister ElSayed el-Quseir said Thursday 21/4/2022 that the Egyptian State is seeking to achieve food security for citizens and is dealing with the target as a top priority.

The government is keen on expanding its agricultural swaths for planting strategic crops, in attempt to narrow the food gap and lower imports volume, Quseir added in remarks Thursday morning marking the inauguration of the wheat harvest season in Toshka, in the Upper Egyptian Governorate of Aswan in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Toshka project is vital for achieving food security, he said, noting that the wheat farms account for 65 thousand feddans of the project out of 110 thousand feddans included in the first phase, he added.
