Gov’t denies reports on removal of Fayoum historic waterwheels

The Cabinet media center denied the reports circulated about the removal of historic waterwheels in Fayoum Governorate, south of Cairo.

The Cabinet’s Media Center said in a statement Friday, it contacted Fayoum Governorate’s officials, as they denied the news, saying the waterwheels have temporarily been removed from the square they are located in until the development process carried out there is completed, in order to preserve and renovate them.

The historic waterwheels are among the most important tourist attractions that represent a cultural and historic value for the governorate, they added.

In this regard, the Cabinet media center urged media outlets and social media users to verify the authenticity of any news before publishing information that may create confusion among citizens.
