Cairo: The government has initiated preparations for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, as detailed in a meeting led by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. The session focused on development activities around the museum and the ongoing preparations for its inauguration.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting brought together key officials such as Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport; Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; and several governors, ambassadors, and representatives from various ministries and authorities.
Dr. Madbouly outlined the significance of the meeting, emphasizing the importance of monitoring progress at the museum and surrounding areas in anticipation of its opening. He relayed directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which include ensuring site coordination and integrating public transport systems to facilitate access to the museum. The Prime Minister also stressed the need for completing visual enhancements of the ring road.
The Prime Minister discussed plans to finalize the official opening date and the steps needed for the historic event, which involves preparing invitations for dignitaries and reviewing scenarios for the celebration. The intention is to present a comprehensive proposal to President El-Sisi concerning the opening date and event logistics.
Spokesperson Mohamed Al-Homsani shared details of the meeting, which covered the status of museum preparations, including the completion of work in the Hall of King Tutankhamun, transfer of artefacts, and finishing touches at the Solar Boat Museum. The meeting also addressed developmental projects around the museum, such as green spaces, lighting, and aesthetic enhancements.
Officials reviewed the progress of nearby roads and public transport systems, as well as recent developments at Sphinx Airport. Al-Homsani also noted discussions on promotional strategies for the museum’s opening, highlighting the importance of ensuring readiness in the surrounding areas and accommodations for distinguished guests.
