Amman: The Government Ministry Tuesday the sixth meeting of the Government Communication Forum entitled “Regulating the Labour Market and the Challenges of the Ministry of Labour” with Labour Minister Nadia Rawabdeh and Communications Minsietr Muhannad Mubaideen.
Rawabdeh said the Labour Ministry issued three new regulations for occupational safety and health in 2023 to improve the work environment for workers in the private sector and instructions for alternatives to institutional nurseries for 2023, protecting pregnant and breastfeeding women and persons with disabilities instructions.
She explained that the legislation comprises the flexible work system, the system of private offices to employ Jordanians inside and outside the country, the system for supplying institutions with Jordanian workers through service providers and two draft instructions for the initial medical examination of workers in institutions and instructions for periodic medical examination of workers.
She said in 2023, 29,300 institut
ions were inspected, and 5,681 violations were issued, noting that the inspection procedures include the extent of compliance with standards of occupational safety and health and child labour.
She added that the Ministry dealt with 13,341 labour-related complaints, 91 per cent of which were settled and 50 collective labour-related disputes, 41 of which were closed.
She indicated that the total number of employment contracts within the national programme amounted to 33,000, 17,205 of which were for females, and that the number of employment contracts concluded with beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund (NAF) reached 2,308.
Rawabdeh explained that the number of registered job seekers on the National Employment Platform “Sijil” reached 224,844, 40 per cent of whom are female.
The number of companies and institutions registered on the platform was 3,635, while the number of workers through employment directorates reached 6,077, and the number of counselling sessions was 2,222.
She said that work is underway
to prepare a draft agreement to facilitate the employment of 150 Jordanians in the German market and train and qualify 150 Jordanians for the local market.
The Minister of Labor said that the Tripartite Committee for Labour Affairs had decided to maintain the minimum wage at JOD260 for 2023-2024, with the committee reconsidering the minimum wage at the beginning of 2025.
