Khawla Barley, Head of Initiatives at Special Olympics UAE, emphasised the Global Media Congress (GMC)’s focus on societal values such as tolerance, integration, and balance, which align with the core values of the Special Olympics and are reflective of the UAE’s principles.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Barley remarked, “I believe that the essence of fostering tolerance and accepting others in our society is getting to know each other and fulfilling our community’s needs in various sectors, including sports.”
Highlighting the significant role of media, she added, “Media plays a crucial role in sharing the human stories of athletes, especially those with disabilities, and portraying a clear image of activities and events taking place in different community sectors.”
“The mutual collaboration between Special Olympics and the media is critical at this stage, and we appreciate all the positive efforts being made to implement it,” she stated.
Barely explained, “We want people to learn how
to come together, appreciate each other, and telling stories of sporting successes and others is a fundamental element in achieving this goal.”
