Mufti of Zahle and the Bekaa, Sheikh Ali Ghazzawi, held a meeting at Dar Al-Fatwa – Bekaa, in the presence of a delegation from the town of Majdal Anjar that included mukhtars, politicians, and figures from the region.
The attendees discussed the repercussions of the attack on the US Embassy in Beirut, and the arrests of many residents, calling on the security apparatuses to ‘expedite investigations to uncover the innocent people, especially since three days have passed since the arrest of more than forty people in this matter.’
Attendees pointed out that “the townspeople were cooperating with the state to the utmost extent, and that accelerating the investigation and releasing the innocents would maintain street control and prevent some enthusiasts from being reckless.”
They also urged media outlets to “exercise caution in publishing news and not to exaggerate matters or give them a bigger picture than they are.”
Finally they stressed that ‘Majdal Anjar is a vibrant national city that is open to coexiste
nce and is subject to official institutions and under the law, and that maintaining the security of embassies in Lebanon is part of preserving our institutions and our relationship with countries.’
