Germany’s FM Annalena Baerbock to embark on first visit to Egypt on Friday

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is set to pay her first visit to Egypt on Friday to discuss a raft of regional and international issues with Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.

During her two-day visit, Baerbock will also discuss potential areas of cooperation on the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC, which will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, according to a statement by the German Embassy in Cairo on Monday.

The Green party co-leader Baerbock, 41, is the first-woman-ever to serve in the post of foreign minister in Germany, and also the youngest-ever holder of the post.

Meanwhile, German Ambassador in Cairo Frank Hartmann voiced pleasure at Baerbock’s early visit, noting that it ‘demonstrates Germany’s willingness to maintain a high-level dialogue with Egypt on regional and bilateral, as well as international cooperation on climate change.’
