Fez – Germany’s Ambassador to Morocco, Robert Dölger, praised on Tuesday in Fez, the ‘extraordinary relations’ between his country and the Kingdom.

‘Morocco and Germany have succeeded in strengthening and deepening their relations in an extraordinary fashion,’ the German diplomat underlined at an international colloquium on ‘Oral and regional heritage in research and in university and school teaching.’

Emphasizing the excellent relations between the two countries, particularly in the field of university cooperation, Dölger stated that Germany ranks third after France and Ukraine as a preferred destination for Moroccan students.

He pointed out that during 2022, 6,200 Moroccan students studied in more than 400 German universities, mainly in the fields of engineering, law, social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences.

‘In 2023, more than 600 Moroccan academics were supported in German higher education and research institutions by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD),’ he added.

Following the new
structures created by Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education with the ESRI 2030 PACT, which emphasize not only digital but also linguistic skills, the DAAD and the Goethe Institute will be working to further expand the range of opportunities for learning German, particularly in the university context.

In this context, he said that by 2023, more than 70 cooperative ventures had been registered between Morocco and Germany, noting that these could be extended, while new ones could be launched.

Dölger was delighted to announce the visit of a DAAD delegation to Morocco at the end of November. ‘The aim of this delegation, which will visit the universities of Rabat, Fez, Casablanca and Marrakech, among others, is to assess the possibilities for strengthening university cooperation between Morocco and Germany, as we see a great deal of potential here,’ he said.
