GEMAYEL DISCUSSES EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS WITH CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SECRETARY-GENERALEgyptian, Eritrean FMs hold consultations on Horn of Africa affairs

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel received in Kataeb Headquarters in Saifi Secretary-General of Catholic Schools Father Joseph Nasr accompanied by a delegation from Private School Teachers Union.

The meeting was attended by Kataeb Lawmaker Selim Sayegh and Kataeb’s Head of Public Policy Legislation Lara Saade.

Gemayel highlighted the importance of preserving the foundations and components for the continuity of the educational sector in both aspects: addressing the concerns of retired teachers amidst the decline in the value of their pension payments due to the depreciation of the Lebanese currency, and navigating the economic crisis currently affecting Lebanon.

He considered that the optimal path to achieving a fair solution lies in intensive dialogues involving all stakeholders in the matter, including educators, educational institutions, and parent committees, saying that such dialogues would enable reaching an outcome that satisfies all parties involved.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry held consultations with his Eritrean counterpart Othman Saleh ahead of his meeting with President Isaias Afwerki to deliver a message from President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

The two ministers discussed expanding cooperation building upon the existing projects in the sectors of infrastructure, healthcare, vocational training, and fisheries among others.

They also tackled the affairs of the Horn of Africa so as Minister Shoukry expressed Egypt’s keenness on the consolidation of peace and security in that region given its influence on continental security.

The Egyptian and Eritrean ministers equally conferred over the Gaza War. In that framework, Minister Shokry underscored the salience of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, and supply of sufficient aid to the Strip. He also warned of the expansion of the scope of the conflict in the region.

The consultations similarly included the insurgency in Sudan and its repercussions on the Sudanese people. In that context,
Minister Shoukry noted the pivotal role of the Sudan Neighboring States Mechanism in brokering a settlement to preserve the unity, safety and stability of Sudan.

Concluding the meeting, both ministers agreed on continuous coordination on the level of the international community as well as consultations on different challenges.
