DUBAI: The General Authority of Sports (GAS) launched a project titled ‘Talents,’ which aims to discover and nurture promising sporting talents in the UAE.
The project also aims to enhance the UAE’s sporting competitiveness and inspire the youth to embrace sports as a way of life, in line with the UAE Vision 2031, by identifying and supporting 1,500 young sporting talents aged under 14.
The project will aim to motivate them to practice sports regularly, foster a competitive spirit among them, and showcase their talents, as well as enable them to adopt a healthy lifestyle, create a database of sports talents, and expand the country’s pool of talents every year.
Ghanem Al Hajri, Director-General of GAS, said the project aims to encourage young talents to join competitive sports early, improve their skills and performance, and foster their health and sportsmanship.
The authority and its partners from relevant sporting entities will support these talents to develop their skills and ensure their professional g
rowth, he added, expressing his hope that it will become a launching pad for achieving international and Olympic success and enhance the reputation and status of Emirati sports in regional and global arenas, under the vision of the UAE’s leadership.
Sheikh Suhail Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at GAS, said that the project cooperates with nine sports federations and bodies to organise various competitions, championships, and festivals that utilise new methods to discover and develop sporting talents in nine different sports.
The project has already hosted three events out of 18 planned events and festivals, which are the ‘First Talent Discovery Festival for Athletics Buds,’ the ‘Future Falcons Golf Talent Discovery Festival’ and the ‘Abu Dhabi Club Tennis Festival for Badminton Talent Discovery”.
