Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) was officially announced as a recipient of the United Nations Public Service Award in the Climate Action category at the 2024 United Nations Public Service Forum held in South Korea.
Director of the Project Follow-up and Sustainability Unit at GAM, Sajida Nsour, accepted the award during the ceremony. GAM was recognized for its project Improving Living Conditions of Disadvantaged Areas in Amman and the Urban Micro-Lungs Initiative, said a statement on Thursday.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Environment and GAM, the project addresses the need for public green spaces in eastern Amman.
It focuses on improving green infrastructure, enhancing residents’ quality of life and biodiversity, and strengthening social cohesion through participatory planning and design.

Award is a prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service, rewarding the creative achievements of public institutions that lead to more effective and responsive public administration worldwide, it added.
