GAH chief: Free tumor treatments one of universal health coverage main gains

Over 110,000 medical services have been offered to tumor patients since the launch of the new universal health insurance system in its first-phase governorates of Port Said, Luxor, and Ismailia system, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) Ahmed Al-Sobky said.

In press statements on Saturday 21/01/2023, Sobky, who doubles as General Supervisor of the Universal Health Insurance Project (UHIP), added that free tumor treatments are one of the main gains of implementing the new health coverage policy.

He noted that the above-mentioned services included outpatient visits, surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, MRI, and positron emission tomography (PET).

Sobky also highlighted the authority’s contribution to presidential health initiatives, as well as its early tumor detection awareness campaigns, and training events to keep tumor specialists abreast of the latest developments in the fight against cancer.

He also revealed that the authority had already set in motion three cooperation protocols with leading companies and entities in Sweden, including Elekta and Karolinska Institute, to share knowledge about state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment methods.
