Future Blockchain Summit spotlights Web3, connectivity

DUBAI: The Future Blockchain Summit 2024 concluded today at Dubai Harbour, focusing on Web3 and the future of connectivity.

The event brought together over 1,200 investors, 120 exhibitors, and 150 speakers from more than 50 countries, welcoming leading experts in crypto, blockchain, and Web3.

In his keynote, Don Tapscott, Executive Chairman at the Blockchain Research Institute, discussed the evolution from Web1.0 to Web3, highlighting blockchain’s integration with AI, IoT, and extended reality.

He stressed that blockchain enables a decentralised internet where users control their data and assets.

Tapscott added that blockchain could create decentralised AI and computing models, solving issues like AI’s false recommendations by tracking data provenance.

In a panel session, Christian Gleich, Ambassador of European Blockchain Association, Frederik Gregaard, CEO of Cardano Foundation, and Bader Al Kalooti, Regional Growth and Ops Lead for Binance MENASAT, discussed the importance of interoperability for iden
tity layers and regulatory clarity. Gregaard suggested that blockchain will go mainstream when physical assets connect to the blockchain.

Another panel featuring Henrik Johansson, Head of Global Community at Sui Foundation, and Belal Jassoma, Director of DMCC Ecosystems at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), explored Web3 challenges and opportunities, emphasising the UAE’s regulatory advantages but noting the need for more education and AI modelling.

Jassoma highlighted the role of regulatory sandboxes and hackathons in fostering innovation.

Over four days, investors explored new opportunities and emerging trends, with IVC Fund Partner JT Law stating that the event offered valuable networking and investment insights.
