DUBAI: In a panel discussion on the first day of the 2nd edition of the 1 Billion Followers Summit in Dubai, featuring the dynamic cinematic experts, the Godus Brothers, and talented content creator and actress NJM, shed light on their journey from social media stardom to conquering the big screens. The session, moderated by Rajeh Al Harthi, educated attending content creators on the strategies and challenges behind expanding their influence and transforming their brand of content into a global entertainment phenomenon and international stardom.
Faris Godus, a renowned writer, creative manager, and director, enlightened the audience about the role of passion and adaptability in their success. “The beginning was luck, and we followed our passions,” he said.
Reflecting on his early days, he highlighted how technological advancements and a prize from the Red Sea International Film Festival in 2019 paved the way for their acclaimed film ‘The Book of Sun.’ “My experience with creating short-form content for soci
al media taught me how to utilize the tools and resources I had to make it work, and made me very adaptable to situations,” Faris added.
Sohayb Godus, a multifaceted artist involved in writing, acting, producing, and satire hosting, shared his journey of self-discovery. “At the start of my career, I had no desire to become an actor. When we produced our short film ‘The Book of Sun,’ we had to take our skillset to the next level,” he revealed. Sohayb noted the evolving creative landscape in Saudi Arabia, expressing the importance of respecting societal values and sensitivities while telling compelling stories.
NJM, the influential Jeddah content creator and actress, stressed the power of authenticity. “The more genuine you are, the better you are able to connect with others and your audience,” she affirmed. NJM shared her experience of wearing multiple hats during the creation of social media content, learning about all aspects of filmmaking in the process. ‘As a content producer I was the producer, the dire
ctor and the star, this taught me a great deal and gave me an understanding on what is required for larger productions and what’s expected from me as an actress.’
She also underscored the delicate balance between being bold and provocative, emphasizing the need to create quality productions addressing important topics.
