Four people were killed today in an explosion at a fuel station in the Chechen capital, Grozny.

The press centre of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation stated, according to the Interfax news agency, that four people, including two children, lost their lives in a gas tank explosion followed by a fire at a fuel station on Muhammad Ali Street in the capital.

The statement added that the fire spread across an area of 900 square metres and was brought under control with the involvement of 35 personnel and seven specialised firefighting vehicles. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
